Install the extension, step by step
From the Chrome Web Store to your first live caption — 6 steps, about 3 minutes, with a screenshot for every step.
Steps
- 1
Open the Chrome Web Store page
Click "Install free" on this website, or search for "Streaming Translator" on the Chrome Web Store. The extension's store page opens.
You will see: the store page titled "Streaming Translator – Live subtitles" with a blue Add to Chrome button on the right.

- 2
Confirm "Add extension"
Chrome shows a dialog listing the permissions the extension needs (tab audio, showing captions). Click "Add extension" — installation takes a few seconds.
You will see: a small dialog under the address bar with Add extension / Cancel buttons.

- 3
Pin the icon to your toolbar
Click the puzzle-piece (Extensions) icon next to the address bar, find Streaming Translator and click the pin. The icon now stays on your toolbar for quick access.
You will see: the pin turns blue and the extension icon appears next to the address bar.

- 4
Sign in with Google
Click the extension icon and choose Sign in with Google. Signing in attaches the free trial plan to your account and tracks your translation hours.
You will see: the familiar Google account picker; afterwards the popup shows your name and the Free trial plan.

- 5
Translate your first video
Open any YouTube video. The extension's round icon floats at the right edge of the video — click it to open the translation panel, then press Start. Captions appear as soon as the video speaks.
You will see: the glass panel opens on the right, Start turns into Stop, and a live caption line follows the speech.

If nothing happens yet
Reload the video tab and try again; make sure the icon is pinned and you are signed in. Still stuck? See the Troubleshooting page — every common issue has a fix there.
Tip: tabs that were already open before installing need a reload (F5) before the extension can run on them.
